Reliant Energy fills leadership roles, creates value for stakeholders

HOUSTON – Albert Myres has joined Reliant Energy Inc. as senior vice president of government and public affairs. His appointment comes as Reliant fills its remaining key leadership roles, completing the transition that began when Mark Jacobs was named CEO in May 2007. Albert MyresFor 11 years, Myres held positions of increasing responsibility at Shell Oil Co. Most recently, he served as chief of staff and senior adviser to the president of Shell’s U.S. branch. In that position, he was involved with strategy, public policy, political activities, stakeholder engagement and philanthropy. He also represented the compa-Albert Myres ny at various local and national organizations, including the Greater Houston Partnership, The Nature Conservancy, the National Association of Manufacturers, the United States Chamber of Commerce and the National Urban League.

During his tenure, Myres also served as vice president of the Shell Oil Company Foundation. Prior to joining Shell, Myres directed the Texas office of U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison for three years. He graduated from the University of Tulsa and began his career in the financial services industry.

In addition to Myres’ appointment, Charles Griffey has been promoted to senior vice president, regulatory affairs. Together, Myres and Griffey will manage Reliant’s interface with government and regulatory agencies across the country.
In a separate move, Rogers Herndon was promoted to the newly created position of senior vice president, strategic planning and business development. All three report to Jacobs.

“Ensuring that we have the right team in place has been one of my highest priorities,” Jacobs said. “With these key roles filled and the hiring of Rick Dobson as chief financial officer in October, we are well positioned to execute our strategy and create value for all of our stakeholders.”
